Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers today announced that the club has acquired goalkeeper Jon Kempin, midfielder Jimmy Medranda and forward Daniel Salloi on loan from Sporting Kansas City. All three players will be available for the Rangers' season opener against Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, March 26 at Children's Mercy Park.
"I see this as a relationship between the Swope Park Rangers and the younger players of Sporting KC who need minutes," Swope Park Rangers head coach Marc Dos Santos said. "I don't see it as a loan, I see it more as a big squad between the two teams, and I think it's excellent not only for the Rangers, but also Sporting KC."
Kempin, 22, joined the Rangers at the start of the team's training camp in Tucson last month, making three appearances at the Desert Diamond Cup and five in total during preseason. Sporting KC's first-ever Homegrown signing in 2010, Kempin has made 10 appearances for the club in all competitions with his most recent coming as a substitute in Sporting KC's penalty-shootout loss to the Portland Timbers in the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round on October 29, 2015.
The Leawood, Kansas native has experience in both the USL and the NASL, having played for the USL's Orlando City SC and OKC Energy FC in 2013 and 2014, while he spent the early stages of the 2015 season in the NASL with the San Antonio Scorpions. Kempin has also represented the U.S. from the Under-14 through Under-23 levels in addition to being named to the U.S. Men's National Team for the 2015 January Camp.
Medranda appeared off the bench in Sporting KC's first two games of the season against Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC after spending significant time in preseason with the Rangers. The 22-year-old started all four SPR games at the Desert Diamond Cup before returning to Sporting KC ahead of the 2016 MLS season.
Medranda joined Sporting KC on loan in 2013 from Colombian side Deportivo Pereira, and the deal was made permanent in 2014. A native of Mosquera, Colombia, Medranda has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Sporting KC, while he also has USL experience after spending time on loan with OKC Energy FC in 2014.
One of Sporting KC's newest signings, Salloi joined the club as a Homegrown Player on January 13, 2016. Like Kempin, Salloi featured prominently for the Sporting KC Academy. While with the Academy Under-18 team, Salloi led the squad with 21 goals in 28 appearances before heading back to his native Hungary and signing an amateur contract with Ujpest FC - the same club he played for prior to moving to the U.S. as an exchange student in 2014.
The 19-year-old forward made five appearances in preseason with Sporting KC, scoring one goal against the Houston Dynamo at the Desert Diamond Cup on February 27. Salloi has been an unused substitute in each of Sporting KC's opening three games of the 2016 MLS season.
