Game Preview for OC Blues FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
March 25, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. - Orange County Blues FC kick off their defense of the USL Western Conference Regular Season title with a match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. The Blues enter the 2016 season on the back of the most successful season in the clubs history. Head Coach/General Manager Oliver Wyss joined the Blues in 2015 and along with his staff has helped guide the club from a 13th place finish in 2014 to 1st place in the Western Conference last season.
The Blues significantly strengthened the team in the off season with a number of new faces joining the club, including full internationals such as Trevin Caesar (Trinidad & Tobago) and Andrae Campbell (Jamaica). Clearly not wanting to rest on their laurels the Blues are now determined to go one better than last season by winning the USL Championship. The Blues have a good record over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 having gone undefeated against them last season with a 2-0 home win and a 1-1 draw on the road. They will be looking to continue this run of form on Saturday night.
Vancouver will be looking to improve on last season's performance having finished 11th place in their inaugural season in the USL Western Conference. In particular, they will be looking to address their form on the road as last term they claimed just three victories and recorded ten defeats. The Whitecaps have a number of returning players this season such as the lively Victor Blasco and Canadian International defender Jackson Farmer. However their focus is clearly still on developing younger players with the squads' current average age standing at just over 20 years old.
The Blues will be confident coming into this fixture following such a successful season last year, which included nine home wins, and will be looking to kick off the 2016 season with three points. The match will be streamed live on the USL YouTube channel at http://www.uslsoccer.com/match-center and updates will be provided via Twitter @ocbluesfc or using #OCvVAN.
