Meet the Newest Islanders Ahead of Saturday's USL Season Opener

Harrisburg, PA - The Islanders are excited to announce four player signings ahead of Saturday's USL season opener against the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium. Chris Hill, Joshua Hughes, Shane Campbell and 2015 MLS SuperDraft pick Shawn McLaws will join the Islanders for the 2016 season.

Chris Hill

HT: 6' 0" WT: 170 DOB: 3/11/1994

Chris Hill makes his USL debut with the Islanders following a successful collegiate career at Villanova University.

Hill appeared in 15 matches during his first season at Villanova in 2013 season. That season he led the team with three goals and three assists.

In 2014, Chris started all 19 games and contributed a pair of assists and had a total of three shots on goal. He was also named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

Joshua Hughes

HT: 5' 10" WT: 155 DOB: 11/3/91

Josh Hughes comes to Becher's squad after spending last season with NASL side Atlanta Silverbacks.

Hughes made his professional debut for the Silverbacks on July 4, 2015 in a 2-1 defeat to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Before beginning his professional career, Hughes spent his collegiate career at Berry College. He totaled of 69 appearances for the Vikings and tallied 14 goals and six assists. The two-time NSCAA all-region selection at Berry ended his career with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points.

Additionally, Hughes became Berry's first student-athlete to earn Capital One Division III Academic All-America honors. He held a perfect 4.0 GPA and majored in biochemistry.

Shane Campbell

HT: 6'0" WT: 175 DOB: 6/24/1994

Campbell joins the Islanders for his rookie season following a collegiate career at Penn State University and University of Louisville.

While at Penn State University, Campbell recorded his first career goal in victory over West Virginia as a sophomore in 2013. He was part of defense's 275-minute shutout streak over four matches in 2013 and also scored in 2-1 win over Penn as a sophomore. Overall, Campbell appeared in 16 games, making 13 starts and totaling 1,177 minutes as a freshman.

In 2014, Shane transferred to the University of Louisville where he started in 11 matches and appeared in 18 matches during first season with the Cardinals. He scored one goal and one assist during the season.

In high school the York native was named first team All-State in 2011 at Dallastown Area High School. Additionally, he was a member of Philadelphia Union U-17/U-18 Academy for two season. He scored the game-winning goal in U-19 youth national championship game for Lehigh Valley in the summer of 2016.

Shawn McLaws

HT: 5' 10" WT: 170 DOB: 3/9/1993

Defender, Shawn McLaws joins Becher's squad from the New York Red Bulls where he was selected with the 59th overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

On February 21, 2015 McLaws made his first appearance for New York in a 1-0 preseason victory over Oklahoma City Energy FC. He was also loaned to affiliate side New York Red Bulls II during the 2015 season.

Prior to his professional career, McLaws played four seasons at Coastal Carolina University, ending his collegiate career with a 73-18-3 record, including three Big South regular season titles and two tournament championships. In 2014 he was named to College Soccer News Third Team All-American, NSCAA First Team All-South Atlantic Region, Big South Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Big South, and Big South All- Tournament Team, as well as Big South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

The Islanders kickoff the 2016 USL season on the road against the Richmond Kickers Saturday, March 26 at 5:00 p.m. City will play its first four games of the season on the road. During the road stretch the Islanders will face rivals Pittsburgh at Highmark Stadium in the first match of the 2016 Keystone Derby at Highmark Stadium, as well as Charlotte and Orlando City B before returning to Harrisburg for their home opener.

The Islanders will play their highly anticipated 2016 home opener at FNB Field, City Island, Harrisburg on Friday, April 22 against Louisville FC at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a limited edition insulated koozie provided by Capital BlueCross. Save your tickets today!
