Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The Swing of the Quad Cities scored four times in the eighth inning to take a 9-6 win over the Lansing Lugnuts before 5,321 fans at Oldsmobile Park Wednesday afternoon. The Swing have taken the first two games of the series.
With the scored tied 3-3 in the eighth, the Swing sent all nine batters to the plate while taking advantage of four Lugnut errors. With runners at first and second, Mark Hamilton reached on an error by David Hicks that allowed Jon Jay to score. Back-to-back errors by Anthony Garibaldi allowed another run to cross to make it 5-3 and load the bases.
Daniel Nelson and Henry Guerrero each ripped RBI singles to end the inning, as the Swing took a 7-3 lead.
Lansing cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame when Brian Bormaster cracked a two run homer to left field that made the score 7-5. However that is as close as the Lugnuts would get.
Lansing took the lead in the first inning after scoring three runs off of Tyler Norrick. David Hicks had an RBI infield single to tie the game at 1-1. The Lugnuts took the lead on a Bormaster two-run double into left-center field to make it 3-1.
The Swing scored one run in the third frame and tied the score in the fourth when Guerrero drew a bases loaded walk to knot the score at 3-3.
Scott Vander Weg (7-2) got the win for the Swing, throwing one perfect inning of relief.
Po-Hsuan Keng (1-4) suffered the loss for Lansing, allowing four runs in 2 1/3 innings of work. None of the runs were earned.
Jonathan Mikrut recorded the save for the Swing.
Lansing (56-51, 16-24) and the Swing (57-50, 23-16) will continue the series on Thursday evening. A.J. Wideman (1-3, 4.54) will toe the rubber for the Lugnuts, while Donnie Smith (1-1, 5.40) will start for the Quad Cities.
