South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend - Wednesday night the South Bend Silver Hawks played a pair of games. The first game was trying to get a ballgame in before inclement weather hit South Bend. The Hawks and their opponent, the West Michigan Whitecaps, each won that contest. The second win came against the Whitecaps, whom the Hawks trailed by 6.5 games at first pitch. When the last out was recorded, the Hawks captured the ‘second game' with a 5-3 win.

The Whitecaps carried a 1-0 lead to the bottom of the second. In the second, the Hawks sent eight batters to the plate to secure four runs.

Ricardo Sosa opened the frame with a base hit and touched home plate ahead of Will Crouch, who deposited West Michigan starter Josh Rainwater's pitch over the left field wall and down the left field line for a 2-1 South Bend lead. After Frank Curreri's strikeout, Trey Hendricks walked, Steve Mena was hit by a pitch and Pedro Ciriaco reached on an infield single to load the bases. Hendricks scored when Rainwater let loose with a wild pitch and Mena was plated on an RBI groundout by Leyson Septimo, for a Hawks 4-1 edge.

The Hawks added an additional run in the seventh on Justin Upton's 48th RBI, a scoring fly ball.

The Silver Hawks (58-46, 25-14) continue their four game series Thursday night with the Whitecaps. First pitch is slated for 7:00PM. Thursday is Triple Play Thursday with 103.9 The Bear. Fans can purchase reserved seat tickets for $3 and the Budweiser Bullpen Bar and Grille will serve Michelob Ultra for $3.
