LAST TIME OUT

MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (54-50) defeated the Buffalo Bisons 5-1 on Saturday evening to match a season-high four games above .500. Michael Beltre launched a two-run shot to right field for his first career Triple-A home run.

Buffalo grabbed the lead early against RailRiders' starter Clarke Schmidt. LJ Talley gave the Bisons a 1-0 advantage with a run-scoring single to right in the first. Schmidt settled in after that and pitched a season-best five innings with just the one run allowed and three strikeouts. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own to jump in front. Tyler Wade doubled to center to score Estevan Florial and tie the game at one apiece. Ronald Guzmán then reached on an error three batters later that plated Wade and gave SWB a 2-1 lead. The RailRiders extended their edge to 4-1 after Beltre's two-RBI blast in the fourth. Beltre has a pair of hits and a stolen base since being promoted to the RailRiders on August 5.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added an insurance run in the seventh via a two-base hit from Miguel Andújar that brought Oswald Peraza home. Peraza finished the night 2-for-4 and currently owns a five-game hitting streak. Michael Gomez, Carlos Espinal and Shane Greene combined to pitch four shutout frames out of the RailRiders' bullpen in the 5-1 final. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre relievers have given up five runs over 23 innings of work in this series (1.96 ERA).

Schmidt (1-0) earned his first win of the season with SWB. Casey Lawrence (8-4) was saddled with the loss for Buffalo.
