
Jumbo Shrimp Fall 2-1 to Redbirds in Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jerar Encarnacion homered, but despite having the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell 2-1 to the Memphis Redbirds in their finale on Sunday at 121 Financial Ballpark.
After surrendering the tying run in the sixth inning, Memphis (55-49) regained the lead against Jacksonville (59-46) reliever Jake Fishman (L, 4-1). With one out, Ivan Herrera walked and advanced to second two batters later on a single from Luken Baker. Irving Lopez walked to load the bases and Roberto Baldoquin smacked a single, giving the Redbirds a 2-1 lead.
Memphis initially opened the scoring in the top of the fifth. Austin Allen (1) blasted a solo home run to put the Redbirds ahead 1-0.
The Jumbo Shrimp got their only run in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Encarnacion (12) swatted a solo home run to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Jacksonville got a great effort from their pitching staff. Jeff Lindgren spun five innings, allowing just one run on one hit with two walks and four strikeouts. Cole Sulser tossed one scoreless frame with one strikeout in his first rehab appearance with the Jumbo Shrimp. Robert Garcia also threw two shutout frames, allowing just one walk.
Jacksonville hits the road to begin a six-game series at Durham with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday night. RHP Bryan Hoeing (7-5, 5.19 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp and the Bulls will hand the ball to RHP Kevin Herget (8-1, 2.20 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
