Chasers Take the Series Finale with St. Paul

PAPILLION, Neb. - Four Storm Chasers launched home runs over the fence to help Omaha secure the get-out day win 9-6 over St. Paul. The Saints took the series win 4-2 but the Storm Chasers hold a season-series edge 10-8.

Omaha (51-53) was the first team to put a run on the board when first baseman Gabriel Cancel hit his second homer of the season, scoring catcher Freddy Fermin who was on base after a double to open a 2-0 lead.

St. Paul (51-52) answered in the top of the fourth plating a pair of runs on an Elliot Soto RBI single and a David Banuelos RBI single to knot the score.

The Chasers retook the lead in the bottom of the frame on a Fermin homer to right field. Shortstop Maikel Garcia recorded his second Triple-A hit, an RBI double to score two more Chasers and give Omaha a 5-2 lead through four innings of play.

The Saints scored two more runs in the top of the sixth, executing a double steal before Braden Bishop scored on a Chaser throwing error that allowed the ball to get into the outfield trying to throw the runner out. Lincoln native Michael Helman hit a sacrifice fly to score Soto and put the score at 5-4.

Third baseman Jimmy Govern answered with another Chaser home run to start the bottom of the sixth and give Omaha a two-run lead heading to the seventh.

Roy Morales hit a two-run homer that scored Caleb Hamilton who reached on a walk to knot the score at 6-6.

Left-hander Anthony Misiewicz came in and allowed the two runs in the seventh, getting tagged with a blown save but Omaha bounced back to get Misiewicz his second win in his second game with Omaha.

Right fielder Brewer Hicklen drew a walk to start the bottom of the inning before stealing his 22nd base of the season. After moving to third on a groundout, Hicklen scored on a sacrifice fly from second baseman Clay Dungan that gave Omaha the lead back 7-6.

Garcia hit his first Triple-A home run of his career in the eighth, scoring center fielder Drew Waters after Waters reached on a walk.

Left-hander Sam Freeman came in and pitched the eighth and retired the first batter in the ninth before right-hander Jose Cuas finished the game for Omaha.

Omaha hits the road the next two weeks, starting with a six-game series that starts on Tuesday in Toledo at 6:05 p.m. CDT. Coverage will start at 5:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.

After the road trip, the Chasers return home for a six-game set against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting on August 23.
