Saints Give up Four Long Balls in 9-6 Loss to Storm Chasers

OMAHA, NE - With an opportunity to get over .500 for the first time since June 19, the St. Paul Saints gave up four home runs and lost the to Omaha Storm Chasers 9-6 on Sunday evening at Werner Park.

The Storm Chasers hit the first of their four homers in the second, With one out, Freddy Fermin doubled down the left field line. That was followed by a two-run homer to left-center from Gabriel Cancel, his second of the season, making it 2-0.

The Saints tied it in the fourth getting three consecutive hits with two outs. With one out Roy Morales drew a walk. With two outs, Braden Bishop singled to left moving Morales to second. Elliot Soto then ripped a single into left scoring Morales cutting the deficit to 2-1. David Bañuelos tied the game at two with an RBI single to center.

The Storm Chasers didn't waste any time regaining the lead. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Fermin hit a solo homer to right, his sixth of the season, putting the Storm Chasers up 3-2. They loaded the bases on an infield single by Gabriel Cancel, a walk to Jimmy Govern, and a Drew Waters hit by pitch. Maikel Garcia drove home two with a double to left making it 5-2.

In the sixth, the Saints plated two runs without a hit. With one out and Braden Bishop on first from a fielder's choice, Elliot Soto walked. They pulled off a double steal and Fermin's throw to third went into left field scoring Bishop and sending Soto to third as the Saints got to within 5-3. Michael Helman's sacrifice lineout to center scored Soto cutting the deficit to 5-4.

A leadoff solo homer in the bottom of the sixth from Jimmy Govern, his third of the season, put the Storm Chasers back up 6-4.

The Saints knotted it for the second time on the night in the seventh when Caleb Hamilton walked and Roy Morales hit a two-run homer to right, his third of the season.

The tie game didn't last long as the Storm Chasers regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Brewer Hicklen led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Clay Dungan making it 7-6.

The Storm Chasers added two insurance runs in the eighth. With two outs and nobody on, Waters walked and Garcia delivered a two-run homer to right, his first at Triple-A, pushing the lead to 9-6.

The Saints are off Monday and return to action on Tuesday night at 7:07 p.m. at CHS Field against the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Guardians). The Saints send RHP Aaron Sanchez (4-1, 4.08) to the mound against Clippers RHP Cody Morris (0-0, 6.75).
