MOOSIC, PA (August 3, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (52-49) evened the series against the Buffalo Bisons with a 5-2 win on Wednesday night. Tyler Wade reached base three times and hit his first RailRiders home run since 2019.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre struck for four in an eight-batter third inning. After being held scoreless through the first eleven innings of the series, Chris Owings broke the scoreless affair with a double off left fielder Logan Warmoth's glove for a 1-0 lead. Oswald Peraza and Josh Breaux would plate runs with singles before Ben Rortvedt made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Buffalo responded in the fourth inning with Cullen Large's fifth homer of the year. Wade got that solo run right back in the bottom of the frame with his home run with the RailRiders this season. It was his 100th career Triple-A RBI.

The Bisons mustered a run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-2. Greg Weissert entered the ballgame with one out in the eighth with the tying run at the plate. The RailRiders' closer got two quick outs to end the threat.

Shane Greene (2-1) pitched two innings of relief for the win. Bowden Francis (5-8) took the loss after a three-inning start. Weissert tallied his 14th save of the season and pushed his scoreless streak to 19 games and 19.0 innings.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders welcome in the Buffalo Bisons for a six-game series in their first set of August. The last time Buffalo came to PNC Field in late June/early July, the RailRiders swept the Bisons for the franchise's first-ever six-game series sweep.

GETTIN' BUFF - Since losing the first three matchups against Buffalo to open their season series ‚¬â€š ‚¬â€š ‚¬â€š ‚¬â€š ‚¬â€š ‚¬â€š back in April, the RailRiders have won nine of their last eleven games against the Bisons. In those games, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is outscoring Buffalo 52-30.

WADE FOR 100, ALEX - On Wednesday, Tyler Wade hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was his 100th career Triple-A RBI. It was his first Triple-A home run since July 23, 2019 at Columbus and his first at PNC Field since May 31, 2019 against Lehigh Valley. In 266 career Triple-A games, that was his first home run against Buffalo.

TIGHT RACE - Entering Thursday, there's a three-way tie for first in the International League East between Durham, Jacksonville and Lehigh Valley (56-45). Only four games separate the top five teams (including Scranton/Wilkes-Barre) in the division.

THANKS OLLIE - The forecast starting on Thursday shows thunderstorms of at least a 40% chance or higher through next Wednesday (save Monday). The RailRiders and Bisons will have another three-game series to finish the season from September 26 to September 28. Next week, the RailRiders host Worcester, who they will also host September 13-18.

O(UT OF THI)S WALDO - Oswaldo Cabrera enters tonight on a ten-game hit streak (season-best) with four homers. The longest hit streak in his career lasted 15 games while in the Dominican Summer League from June 22 to July 27, 2016. He went 27-for-61 during that stretch (.443). When Cabrera began his Triple-A career at the end of the 2021 season, he carried a hit streak over from Double-A Somerset that ended up lasting 13 games.

RON APPÉTIT - Since July 8, Ronald Guzmán has been on a 19-for-45 push (.422) with seven doubles and two home runs over his last twelve games. The seven games prior to this, Guzmán had gone 3-for-19 (.158) while striking out seven times. He enters with an eight-game hit streak. It's his longest hit streak since 2019 (nine games). The longest hit streak of his career lasted 16 games from June 25 to July 17, 2016 (23-for-63, .365). He has four hit streaks in his career that have lasted ten games or more at any level.

STREAKY - Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in nineteen straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 19.0 innings... Josh Breaux has a fifteen-game on-base streak, every Triple-A game he has had a plate appearance in... Tyler Wade has a ten-game on-base streak... Estevan Florial has an eight-game on-base streak...

ITS BEEN A WHILE - The RailRiders were shut out by the Bisons in Tuesday's opener. It was the first time that Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had been shut out since game one of a doubleheader on June 8. In the first 55 games of the season, the RailRiders were shut out nine times. Including Tuesday's, they have been shut out once in their last 46 games. For Buffalo, they have three shutout victories since the All-Star Break (eleven games).

DEADLINE DONE - With multiple Yankees trades, the RailRiders have lost three pitchers. Ken Waldichuk and JP Sears were traded to the Oakland A's as part of a package for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino. Additionally, Hayden Wesneski was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Scott Effross. Combined, those three pitchers had thrown a combined 180.1 of 841.2 innings this season for SWB (21.4 %). The Yankees also traded Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for RHP Clayton Beeter, who has been with Double-A Tulsa this year.

ON DECK - Friday is First Responder Friday and Friday Night Fireworks, presented by NEPA Crane & Hauling and 98.5 KRZ. 100 tickets will be given away to our first responders each Friday on a first-come, first-serve basis.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (70-36) lost 7-3 to the Seattle Mariners yesterday. Gerrit Cole surrendered six runs in the first inning, but settled down and went six innings with eight strikeouts. They have tonight off before facing the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow with Nestor Cortes taking on Dakota Hudson... The Somerset Patriots (60-37) lost a morning game 6-2 against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies yesterday. The two play tonight at 7:05 PM... The Hudson Valley Renegades (51-45) also had a morning game yesterday in which they defeated the Jersey Shore Blue Claws 7-2. That's back-to-back wins for the 'Gades to open up August. The two square off at 7:05 PM... The Tampa Tarpons (47-50) split a doubleheader with Clearwater yesterday, winning game one 6-2 and losing game two 6-5. Yon Castro struck out six in 4.1 IP with one run allowed in game one. The two take today off and face off on Friday at 6:30 PM...
