Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (52-50) were defeated by the Buffalo Bisons 7-4 on Thursday evening. Ronald Guzmán launched a big two-run blast in the fifth inning.
Buffalo struck immediately with a leadoff home run from Chavez Young against RailRiders' starter Matt Krook to make it 1-0 in the first. Krook allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings with five strikeouts.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded in the home half of the frame via Miguel Andújar's 12th homer of the season. The solo shot tied the game at one apiece. The Bisons jumped back in front with one in the third. Stevie Berman singled to center with two outs and LJ Talley scored from first after a throwing error.
The pendulum swung back in the RailRiders' favor once again in the bottom of the frame after Oswaldo Cabrera tied the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly to left. Buffalo then retook the lead during the next half-inning following a two-run big fly from Nick Podkul made it 4-2 Bisons.
SWB had yet another answer in the bottom of the fifth. Guzmán launched a two-RBI homer of his own after entering the game defensively in the top of the frame to knot things up at four. Guzmán is batting .379 (22-for-58) with three home runs since July 1. The homer extends his hitting streak to nine straight games.
The Bisons went up for good in the sixth after Podkul's second long ball of the game. Podkul finished the night 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI. It was his first multi-homer game of his career.
The RailRiders had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth after Phillip Evans singled to left with Andújar on second. However, he was thrown out at the plate by left fielder Logan Warmoth to keep the Bisons in front. Buffalo added two insurance runs in the ninth in the 7-4 final.
Thomas Hatch (6-5) earned his sixth win for Buffalo after six innings of work. Hayden Juenger (1) notched his first save. Richard Rodriguez (0-1) was saddled with the loss out of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's bullpen.
The two teams continue their six-game series Friday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM. Jhony Brito (5-2, 3.08) makes his tenth start for the RailRiders. It's First Responder Friday and Friday Night Fireworks, presented by NEPA Crane & Hauling and 98.5 KRZ. It's also Faith & Family Night at PNC Field. Tickets are available at swbrailriders.com.
