
Worcester Tops Durham

Durham, NC- Red Sox RF Abraham Almonte clubbed four hits and launched two home runs as Worcester (52-50) notched a 12-0 victory against the Durham Bulls (56-46) on Thursday night at Polar Park. Despite the loss, the Bulls maintain a 2-1 lead in the six-game series.
The Red Sox were firing on all cylinders from the start as Almonte went yard on a solo shot in the first and again in the third on a two-run blast to give Worcester a 3-0 lead. Later in the third, LF Christian Stewart would smash another two-run bomb, and two batters later, 1B Pedro Castellanos crushed a two-run homer to extend the lead to 7-0. In the fourth, the Red Sox maintained their momentum as C Renaldo Hernandez nailed an RBI single and LF Devlin Granberg connected on a two-run single. Worcester would later add two more scores in the contest.
The Red Sox pitching staff of Michael Wacha, Andrew Piloti, and Chase Shugart combined for a no-hitter performance, while ringing up 10 strikeouts. Piloti earned the win after 2.1 innings of work, recording two strikeouts. Bulls pitcher Easton McGee suffered the loss.
The Bulls are set to continue their six-game road trip on Friday night against the Worcester Red Sox, with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 pm. RHP Taj Bradley is expected to start for Durham and be opposed by LHP Chris Murphy for Worcester.
The Bulls will return to the DBAP following their six-game road trip on Tuesday, August 9th to open a six-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
