Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - A two-run blast off the bat of Rodolfo Castro bounced the Indianapolis Indians back from a 2-0 deficit and a go-ahead, solo homer by Brendt Citta gave them the lead for good as they defeated the Louisville Bats on Thursday night at Victory Field, 5-3.
The Indians (49-51) pitching staff matched the offense's effort, striking out a season-high 15 batters in the win. It was their most strikeouts since recording 15 on June 1, 2021 vs. Columbus. All four of the team's 14-plus strikeout games this season have come at Victory Field.
With Indianapolis' first run of the game already in on an RBI single by Hoy Park, Castro smacked his 12th home run of the season to the right-field berm to take a lead over the Bats (42-60) in a three-run fifth inning. The lead didn't last long, however, as a sacrifice fly tied the game in the top of the sixth.
On the first pitch of his sixth-inning at-bat, Citta clocked a ball off Pedro Payano (L, 1-3) far out onto the concourse beyond left field to give Indianapolis a lead it would not relinquish. The designated hitter now has a hit in each of his three Triple-A games since returning to the Indians' lineup. Mike Jarvis then singled up the middle to plate an insurance run for Indy.
Osvaldo Bido was setting down opposing batters quickly, recording eight of his nine outs via punchout. John O'Reilly (W, 4-2) entered in relief and fanned a pair in 3.0 innings, and Hunter Stratton followed with four strikeouts in 2.0 hitless frames. Eric Hanhold (S, 4) struck out one.
The Indians and Bats will face off again tomorrow at 7:05 PM ET, with Indy looking for its first series win since July 4-10 vs. Iowa. RHP Roansy Contreras (0-1, 2.84) will take the mound for Indianapolis against RHP Brandon Williamson (1-2, 3.27).
