Swamp Rabbits Weekly Report

Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECAP

Overall Picture: The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (3-7-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, struggled to find their rhythm for the second consecutive weekend and dropped a trio of road contests to East Division opponents.

The Swamp Rabbits opened a brief three-game road trip on Friday with their inaugural matchup against the Norfolk Admirals in Norfolk, Virginia. Trailing 2-0 after the first 20 minutes, Greenville stormed back with a pair of second-period tallies from Rob Kwiet and Domenic Alberga, but ultimately fell when Alexandre Ranger and Connor Rankin netted their first professional goals in the third period, resulting in a 4-2 final. Between the pipes, New York Rangers' prospect Mackenzie Skapski made his season debut and stopped 29 shots in the loss.

On Saturday, Brian Hart recorded the Swamp Rabbits' only goal in a 5-1 setback to the Reading Royals at Santander Arena. Defenseman Kevin Young led the Royals' offense with his first three points of the season (1g, 2a), while Allen York halted 24 shots and suffered the loss in net for the visitors. Less than 24 hours later, former Greenville goaltender Connor Knapp was flawless between the pipes and earned a 30-save shutout as Reading blanked the Swamp Rabbits, 5-0, in a Sunday afternoon rematch.

UPCOMING GAMES

Thursday, Nov 12 vs. Atlanta (6-2-1), 7 p.m. ET*

Saturday, Nov. 14 vs. Adirondack (8-1-0), 7 p.m. ET*

Sunday, Nov. 15 at Atlanta (6-2-1), 2:05 p.m. ET

QUICK SHIFTS

He's Got "Hart": Rookie forward Brian Hart is off to a hot start in his professional career, leading the Swamp Rabbits with four goals in his first nine appearances. Hart is also tied for third among all league rookies in goal-scoring. Prior to turning pro, the 21-year-old spent three seasons at Harvard University and collected 18 goals in 98 career games. He was selected in the second round (53rd overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and signed a three-year contract with the Lightning on June 28, 2015.

Trending Topics: The Swamp Rabbits are 3-7-0 through their first 10 games this season, but don't hit the panic button just yet. Since the team's relocation in 2010, Greenville has been slow out of the gate more times than not and typically finds momentum as the first half progresses. Greenville began the 2013-14 season 3-6-0 and ranked near the bottom of the league in goals scored (19th), shots against (21st), and had been outscored 45-36. That team went on to make the 2014 Kelly Cup playoffs and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

News and Notes: Jack Combs has recorded at least one point in seven of Greenville's first 10 games and leads the club with nine points (3g, 6a) this season... The Swamp Rabbits scored at least three goals in each of their first four games, but have earned two goals or less in each of their last six... Jordan Knackstedt is five games from his 400th professional appearance, while Combs will play his 400th pro game this Sunday at Atlanta.
