Fort Wayne's Southorn Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Jordon Southorn of the Fort Wayne Komets is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 2-8. He is the first defenseman to win the weekly award since Stockton's Steve Vanoosten in the 2010-11 season.

Southorn scored two goals and added three assists for five points in three games last week.

The 25-year-old had two assists in 4-1 win against Toledo on?Friday, tallied a power-play goal in a 6-4 loss to Kalamazoo on Saturday and picked up a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory at Kalamazoo on?Sunday.

A native of Montreal, Southorn is tied for first among ECHL defensemen with five goals, is third with nine points and tied for second with a +8 rating.

Selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2008 NHL?Entry Draft, Southorn has recorded 118 points (39g-79a) in 222 career ECHL games with?Fort?Wayne,?Gwinnett, Elmira, Wheeling and Trenton and he has added 11 points (3g-8a) in 29 career American?Hockey League games with Providence and Portland.

On behalf of Jordon Southorn, a case of pucks will be donated to a Fort Wayne youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
