
Komet Defenseman Jordon Southorn Named ECHL Player of the Week

Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced today that Fort Wayne defenseman Jordon Southorn has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for the period of Nov. 2-8. Southorn is the first defenseman to win the weekly award in five years. Stockton's Steve Vanoostern was given the award in the 2010-11 season.
Southorn, 25, tallied two goals and added three assists for five points in three games last week.
The Montreal, Quebec native passed two assists in the Komets' 4-1 win against Toledo Friday, scored the first goal Saturday in a 6-4 loss to the visiting Kalamazoo Wings and capped the week with a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win Sunday at Kalamazoo.
Southorn enters week five of 2015-16 tied for first among ECHL defensemen with five goals, ranks third with nine points and is tied for second with +8.
Southorn, selected by Buffalo in round four of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, is skating his second season with the Komets. He appeared in 53 games during 2013-14 and led Fort Wayne defensemen with a career high 12 goals and added 20 assists for 32 points to earn the Komets' Defenseman of the Year award. Last year Southorn skated 26 AHL games with Portland and added eight ECHL games with Gwinnett.
The sixth-year pro has recorded 118 points (39g, 79a) in 222 career ECHL games with Fort Wayne, Gwinnett, Elmira, Wheeling and Trenton. He also has 11 points (3g, 8a) in 29 career AHL games with Providence and Portland.
This week the Komets will skate two road games starting with a 7:35pm faceoff at Cincinnati Wednesday. Then the Komets will be idle until Sunday when they travel to Quad City for a 5:05pm ET start at the iWireless Center.
Komets home Friday, Nov. 20-- After two road games this week, the Komets will return home to host the Kalamazoo Wings Friday, Nov. 20 at 8pm. It will be Kids Seat Free Night courtesy Aunt Millie's, Parkview Health and the Komets. Any child under the age of 12 can see the game for free with a full-priced adult ticket purchase. It will also be another Marathon Night at Komet Hockey. Again this year Komet fans can save on their Friday night tickets with Marathon. Fans can earn a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer with the purchase of three fill-ups at any participating Marathon location.
