Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the team has acquired veteran winger Garett Bembridge from the Rapid City Rush for future considerations.

Bembridge, 34, began the season with the Indy Fuel and recorded 24 points (11g, 13a) in 40 games before a trade sent him to Rapid City on January 27. He went on to collect two points (1g, 1a) and six penalty minutes in eight games with the Rush. Last season, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native led Indy in goals (25) and points (52) in 62 contests while serving as an alternate captain.

In his 15th professional season, Bembridge has registered 129 goals and 277 points in 324 ECHL games among seven different clubs, including Las Vegas, Idaho, Augusta, Utah, Missouri, Indy and Rapid City. He is also a veteran of 244 American Hockey League (AHL) contests, earning 74 points (35g, 39a) during that span with Hartford, Saint John, Lowell, Syracuse, Portland and Iowa. Overall, Bembridge has appeared in nearly 900 professional games including stints in Germany, Japan and Italy.

In addition, Bembridge tallied a career-best 42 goals, 62 assists and 104 points with the Denver Cutthroats (Central Hockey League) in 2013-14 and was named the league's Most Valuable Player that season. He also won the Joe Burton Award as the CHL's scoring champion, playing alongside Swamp Rabbits assistant coach Troy Schwab.

The 6'0, 190-pound forward was originally drafted by the Rangers in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and was re-selected in 2001 by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round (207th overall). He made his professional debut with AHL Hartford in 2001.
