Heroes Night is aimed at honoring the brave men and women who serve and have served our community and country as first responders and soldiers. Throughout the game, the Swamp Rabbits will recognize several local heroes who put their duty and service to others and our country above themselves. Among those being honored include:
- Greenville County Sheriff's Deputy, Dave Dempsey, was shot and seriously injured on December 10 while answering a call at a Taylors apartment complex. Deputy Dempsey remains in the hospital while continuing his recovery and is in stable condition.
- John Warren is a former, decorated infantry officer in the Marine Corps and the founder and President of Lima One Capital. John served four years on active duty and led over 300 combat missions in Iraq before leaving the Marine Corps as a captain in 2008. During his 2006 deployment, John was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for valor in combat and "heroic achievement."
- Firefighters with the Gantt Fire Department battled a blaze at a Greenville County home on February 9, 2015 and pulled an unresponsive man from the burning structure. The members of the Gantt Fire Department saved the man from the fire and revived him so that he could receive further care. He has recovered from his injuries and the ordeal thanks to their heroic actions.
Heroes Night will begin with a "Touch-A-Truck" event from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. just outside the main entrance of the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, at the corner of North and Academy Streets. Several police, fire, EMS and military vehicles, including SWAT vans, hummers and a fire department smokehouse, will be parked and available for fans to interact with prior to the game.
Take advantage of the Greenville News Family Fun Pack for Friday's game and make it a family affair with four (4) red level tickets, four (4) hot dogs, four (4) bags of chips, four (4) soft drinks and two (2) foam fingers for just $60!
