Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON - The Sussex Skyhawks continued to pull at the heartstrings of the Brockton Rox on Wednesday afternoon with a 5-4 victory in fourteen innings at Skylands Park. The one-run loss is the fourth this season for the Rox against Sussex. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourteenth inning, Skyhawks SS Bobby LeNoir singled to deep center, plating the winning run and giving the Skyhawks the series victory.
With Sussex leading 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning, SS Mike Scanzano singled to bring home 2B Mike Torres and force a thrilling, extra-inning contest between the two teams. Still tied in the top of the 13th, 1B Francisco Lebron singled to leadoff. Pinch-runner Keith Brachold stole second base, and scored two batters later on a single by 2B Mike Torres. Sussex answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when 2B Marcos Agramonte scored an unearned run on a passed ball. Rox closer Jon Koch left the bases loaded though; striking out PH Dick Daly Jr., and getting DH Scott Grimes to groundout to end the inning.
RHP Tom Rispoli took the loss for the Rox; allowing LeNoir's one out RBI single in the fourteenth. Sussex RHP Joe Galt picked up his second victory of the season for Sussex with three innings of relief during which he allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Lebron hit his first homerun for the Rox in the sixth inning; a solo shot that closed the gap to 3-2. He was 3-6 on the day with a HR, a double, a run scored and run driven in. Rox starter, RHP John Kelly did not figure in the decision in the game. It was the first time this season he has failed to do so with the Rox. Kelly pitched seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. C Jason Radwan and Lebron each extended their respective hitting streaks to ten games.
The Rox fell to 5-5 in the second half of the season. They are 2-9 against Sussex this season; just 1-6 at Skylands Park.
Brockton travels to Nashua, NH on Thursday to begin a four-game series with the Nashua Pride. LHP Rolando Viera will make his second start since his All-Star Game appearance two weeks ago.
