Nashua Pride star Glenn Murray decides to retire

(Nashua, NH, July 26, 2006) Nashua Pride officials announced today that hitting great, Glenn Murray, has decided to retire after eight seasons of play for the Pride. The Manning, SC native will play in his last home game tomorrow night, Thursday, July 27, versus the Brockton Rox and he will continue on with the club as the hitting coach for the remainder of the season.

Murray started his professional career with the Montreal Expos after getting drafted in the second round of the 1989 draft. The Nashua resident is the career leader in the Atlantic League for both home runs and runs batted in with 158 HR and 528 RBI. He is also second in career runs with 481 and fifth in career hits (701) and career doubles (133) in the Atlantic League. In eight years of service with the Pride, Murray has amassed an impressive stat line: 753 games played with 2,728 AB, 510 runs scored, 737 hits, 142 doubles, 163 HR and 559 RBI.

"This has been the toughest decision of my professional baseball career," says Murray. "I want to thank all the fans, Butch and the Pride organization, for making me feel welcome and it's been great living here in Nashua. I will still be around as the hitting coach and I look forward to contributing to this team for rest of the season."

The Nashua Pride, entering their first year of play in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Historic Holman Stadium. Prior to joining the Can-Am League, the Pride played for eight seasons in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, winning the 2000 Atlantic League championship.
