Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (June 24, 2008) - For the third time in the last five games the Brockton Rox played extra innings on Tuesday night at Campanelli Stadium. In the second game of a four-game set with the Quebec Capitales, Brockton lost 4-3 in ten innings after three costly errors.

The score was tied 1-1 heading in to the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, Quebec LF Issael Gonzalez walked to lead off the inning. He scored when the Rox committed two errors on the next play. 2B Josh Colafemina dropped a bunt down the third base line that was fielded by Rox LHP Jacob Ramos. Ramos spun and threw wildly to first base and ball sailed into right field. RF Jud Thigpen mis-played the ball in right and his throw home was off target and Gonzalez scored from first on what was judged to be two errors.

In the home half of the eighth, Rox 1B Francisco Lebron, mired in a 127 at-bat homerless drought, drove the second pitch he saw over the right-field wall to tie the game at 2-2. However as the game progressed to extra innings, Quebec scored two more runs, one due in part to an error on SS Dominic Ramos and took a 4-2 lead to the bottom of the tenth.

Lebron again led off the inning, and just as he did in the eighth inning, started the frame with an opposite field home run to cut the lead to 4-3. But that's where the scoring ended as Quebec closer RHP Jason Schutt retired the next three batters he faced and recorded his fourth save of the season to secure the win for the Capitales.

Neither starter figured in the final decision although both were impressive. Rox RHP Wayne Lundgren allowed one run on six hits over seven innings while striking out two and walking none. Quebec LHP Kevin Beavers also pitched seven innings and allowed six hits and one unearned run while striking out two and walking a season-high five.

Game three of the four game series is Wednesday night at 7:05 PM at Campanelli Stadium. Quebec RHP Michel Simard (4-0, 2.31 ERA) faces Rox RHP Stevie Delabar (0-0, 4.26 ERA).
