American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release

(Atlantic City, N.J., June 24, 2008) Atllantic City Surf starter Adam Cox earned his third win of the season (3-2) in a 14 strike out performance over the Nashua Pride, as the Surf came back from a three run deficient to beat Nashua, 5-4, in front of 1681 fans at Bernie Robbins Stadium.

Cox went eight innings and gave up four runs, on five hits, three walks, while striking out 14 Pride hitters. Cox's 14 Ks tied the Can-Am League record for most strike outs in a game, previously held by several players. He was relieved in the ninth inning by Derek Duclos, who gave up a pair of walks and one hit before getting the final out to leave the bases loaded, en route to his third save of the season.

Pride starting pitcher Hideki Nagasaka (4-1) factored in with a no-decision. Reliever Jason Paul (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Nagasaka lasted six plus innings, and gave up four runs (two earned), on seven hits, four walks and one strike out.

Paul was the third of four pitchers on the night for Nashua, giving up one run in two-thirds of an inning, on two hits. Relievers Mike Joyce and Rich Garces also saw action out of the Pride bullpen, neither gave up a run.

The Pride scored first in the second inning and led through most of the game before the Surf rallied from 4-1 down in the seventh to tie the game at four and take the 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth.

Atlantic City's Brad Thoma led the Surf attack, finishing the night 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, an RBI, and two runs scored, including the game winner. Center fielder Lucas Taylor went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI.

Pride catcher Luis Rodriguez tallied an RBI for Nashua in the effort, along with out fielders Vinny Pennell and Jeremy Pickrel.

The Pride and Surf will play game three in the four game series on Wednesday night, at 7:05pm, when Nashua send right hander Lance Stevens (3-2) to the mound. Atlantic City will hand Aaron Easton the ball.

The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, entering its 11th season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment. The 2007 Can-Am League Champions will be participating in its third year of play in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball.
