
Tornadoes Sweep Weekly Can-Am Awards

DURHAM, NC -- Worcester Tornadoes OF Scott Grimes and RHP Eddie Pena were selected by PA-Sportsticker, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 16-22.
Grimes had an outstanding week for the first place Tornadoes. The Kennett Square, PA resident had a .500 (13-for-26) batting average to go along with three home runs and seven RBI. He also scored eight runs, slugged .885 and had an on-base percentage of .552. Grimes is batting .447 on the season with seven home runs, 18 RBI and 27 runs scored. He leads the Can-Am League in batting average (.447), home runs (7), runs scored (27), on-base percentage (.538) and slugging percentage (.734). Grimes is currently riding a 14-game hitting streak (the longest active hitting streak in the league and longest Tornadoes hitting streak of the season) and a 27-game on-base streak (the longest active on-base streak in the league and the longest on-base streak in the league this year).
The 24-year-old Grimes is currently in his fourth season of professional baseball, all in the independent leagues. In 2005, he played with the league's road team, the Grays while in 2006 & 2007 he was with the Sussex Skyhawks.
Pena turned in his best outing as a professional in a 3-0 win over the Atlantic City Surf this past Friday, hurling eight shutout innings. He allowed only four hits and one walk while fanning two Surf batters. The 25-year-old is 3-1 on the year with an ERA of 2.97.
The Miami, FL resident is currently in his third season with the Tornadoes. He spent 2005 and 2007 with Worcester going 7-7 with a 5.27 ERA. In 2006, Pena was in the San Diego Padres organization.
