
Rapidz earn doubleheader split

(OTTAWA, ON) June 24, 2008 - Fans at Rapidz Stadium got two games for the price of one on Tuesday night, playing host to the Sussex Skyhawks. The Rapidz dropped the first game 5-2, but manufactured 11 runs on 13 hits to win 11-5 in the second game.
In the first game, Arnprior's Tanner Watson made his debut with the Rapidz and took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in seven innings. His opponent Kyle Ruwe (6-1) went the distance to earn the win, giving up two earned runs on eight hits.
Alex Frazier lead off the second inning with his fifth homerun of the season to give the Skyhawks an early lead, only to see the Rapidz score two in the bottom of that inning to take a 2-1 lead. After Jose Salas and Jared Lemieux produced the go-ahead runs, Sussex added four more runs after two outs in the fourth inning to complete the scoring.
North Gower's Fraser Robinson (2-2) got the win in the second game, after struggling early. He pitched six innings, allowing five runs, four of them earned on eight hits. He also recorded seven strike outs and no walks. Mark Michael (0-2) took the loss allowing seven runs, all earned on nine hits in two and two third innings of work.
Alex Frazier hammered a fastball over the left field fence to give a 3-0 lead to his team in the first inning. The Rapidz came back from behind the tie the game. The Skyhawks added one run in the third, only to see the Rapidz score four in the bottom of that same inning and one in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Rapidz finished the scoring in the sixth, on Jabe Bergeron's mammoth shot over the center field wall, for his third of the season.
The Rapidz and Skyhawks continue their four-game series on Wednesday, June 25 at 7:05pm. Adam Hawes (2-3) will try to improve his personal record while trying to lead the Rapidz to a second win in a row for the first time in the franchise's history. His opponent will be announced before the game.
Before the game, the Rapidz announced the signing of RHP Tanner Watson and infielder Nate Hall, placing Jose Guanchez on the disabled list as of June 19, and releasing Sambu Ndundigi.
