June 30, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Comstock Park, MI - Leonardo Reginatto finished his tremendous month of June with three hits and five runs batted in on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark, sending the Bowling Green Hot Rods (7-4, 45-34) to an 8-1 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (5-6, 38-43). Jeff Ames hurled four scoreless frames in the starter's role, and Tommy Coyle had two hits and an RBI. Winners of three straight, the Hot Rods close June by tying the franchise record with 11 road wins.
After Ames stranded five runners on the bases through the first two innings, Reginatto's first of three hits put the Hot Rods on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning when he drove in Brandon Martin and Andrew Toles with a single up-the-middle. Reginnatto then came in to score when Tyler Goeddel grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, and the Hot Rods led 3-0 at the end of three frames.
Joey Rickard began the top of the fourth inning by getting hit by a pitch and was sent to third base on a Patrick Leonard double. After the Whitecaps intentionally walked Toles with two outs, Reginatto sent a triple down the line in left field to clear the bases to put the Hot Rods up 6-0. Coyle followed with a line drive to right field to score Reginatto.
Ames left after four labor-filled innings, giving the ball over to Eduar Quinonez. Ames did not allow a run in his four innings of work, extending his scoreless innings streak to 19, which is just one inning shy of tying his team-best 20-straight scoreless innings from earlier this season. Quinonez allowed just one run in three innings to earn his sixth win of the season.
The Hot Rods added a run in the top of the ninth inning on a Goeddel sacrifice fly, and Jose Molina notched the final five outs to preserve the win for the Hot Rods. The three-hit performance for Reginatto was his second in as many days as the Brazilian infielder finishes June with a .402 batting average and 16 runs batted in. Reginatto now leads the team with a .315 batting average.
The Hot Rods will attempt a sweep of the Whitecaps on Monday in the road trip finale at 11:00 AM CDT at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan. RHP Taylor Guerrieri (5-2, 2.29) gets the start for the Hot Rods, while the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Edgar De La Rosa (3-2, 7.41). The Forever Communications Pregame Show begins at 10:30 AM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340WBGN.com).
The Hot Rods will return home for a two-game homestand on July 2 and 3 at Bowling Green Ballpark with the Dayton Dragons. Citizens First is sponsoring Kids Get In Free Day in the opener. The finale will feature Bowling Green's All-You-Can-East Wednesday promotion and July 3 Fireworks courtesy of IGA.
