Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Eastlake, OH - Held without a hit through the first six innings Sunday, the TinCaps managed only three for the game, losing, 1-0, at the hands of the Lake County Captains. Fort Wayne had only one runner reach third base in the game, and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position in the losing effort.
The lone run of the game scored in the third inning, when Lake County (6-5, 29-48) shortstop Dorssys Paulino tripled into the right-field corner, scoring Todd Hankins, who reached on a walk issued by the TinCaps' Bryan Rodriguez (1-3). The righthander, who pitched five innings, surrendered just four hits, walked one and struck out four.
Fort Wayne (3-7, 46-33) could not solve Captains starter Dylan Baker (5-5), who had a perfect game heading into the fifth, before he issued a walk to Chris Burke. Rodney Daal reached on a fielding error in the sixth inning, and Maxx Tissenbaum had Fort Wayne's first hit of the game with a leadoff single in the seventh.
The best scoring opportunity for the TinCaps came in the sixth with Daal on base. After reaching, he stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Eric Haase. However, three straight groundouts by Tyler Stubblefield, Mallex Smith and Corey Adamson prevented Daal from scoring.
The game ended without the swing of a bat, but rather with the tag of a glove. Dane Phillips hit a two-out single in the ninth, and Brian Adams was brought in to pinch-run at first base. Chris Burke was then hit by a pitch, putting men at first and second with two outs. Adams attempted to steal third, and was gunned down by Haase, which ended the game. The loss marks the sixth time the TinCaps have been shut out this season in 79 games.
The rubber match of the three-game series is scheduled for Monday evening at 7:00. The scheduled starters are Joe Ross for Fort Wayne and Luis DeJesus for Lake County. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
