Great Lakes Loons News Release

LANSING, MI - Brandon Dixon drove home five of the Great Lakes Loons' eight runs Sunday afternoon in an 8-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts.

The Loons wrap up June with an 18-9 record in the month, the best June in team history (surpassing a 16-9 record in June 2009). They have now won six straight, nine of 10 and 18 of their last 23. They've won four straight series to begin the second half and seek their second straight series sweep Monday evening.

Dixon smashed a three-run home run to left-center for his first professional home run in the top of the first. The Loons never trailed from that point in the game, but Lansing did threaten multiple times, including in the ninth.

After Lansing pulled to within one, the Loons added two more runs in the second on an RBI single by Leo Rodriguez and a bases loaded walk by Corey Seager.

With the score 8-6 in the sixth, Dixon drove home two more runs on a double, bringing in Rodriguez and Seager. Chris Anderson, the Dodgers' first-round selection in 2013, walked four and struck out four in 2 1/3 innings. He was charged with three runs (all earned).

Scott Griggs (2-4) was credited with the win following three scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Owen Jones did not allow a run in two scoreless innings, working in back-to-back games.

The Loons carried a four-run lead into the ninth, but reliever Craig Stem encountered problems. He allowed a run to score, and with two outs walked Christian Lopes to loaded the bases, putting the tying run on base and the winning run at the plate in Kevin Patterson. Razor Shines brought Luis Meza in from the bullpen, and Meza notched his second save of the year by throwing one pitch, inducing a fly out to right field by Patterson.

Alonzo Gonzalez (2-8) took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) and seven hits in 2 2/3 innings and throwing a whopping 73 pitches in that span.

The Loons stole six bases in the game, three by Malcolm Holland typing both a team and individual single-game record. The Loons stranded 14 on base in the game.

Holland, Rodriguez, Dixon, Miller and Garvey all had two hits each for the Loons. Seager drew three walks. Lopes recorded three of Lansing's five hits.

The Loons (36-45 overall, 9-2 second half) will send left-handed pitcher Tom Windle (0-0, 0.00) to the mound. The second-round (56th overall) selection of the Dodgers in this June's draft out of the University of Minnesota debuted June 25 with two scoreless relief innings. He'll be making his first starting assignment Monday. Lansing (34-45, 2-8) will counter with right-hander Taylor Cole (4-6, 4.42). Game time is 7:05pm. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.

The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
