Surf suffer second straight loss

Quebec City- Atlantic City Surf starter Brian Rodaway's start lasted just four innings as the Surf fell to the Quebec Capitales 12-5 in front of 2495 fans Friday Night in game two of a four game series.

Rodaway (5-5) allowed eight runs, all earned on nine Quebec hits with one walk and two strikeouts as Quebec used a big bottom oft he second inning to build a 5-3 lead.

The Surf jumped out with the first three runs of the ballgame over the first inning and a half of play. After a one-out single by C Joe Burke, DH Clyde Williams smacked the first pitch he saw from Quebec starter Michel Simard over the center field wall for a 2-run home run in the top of the first. Atlantic City would push across another tally in the second on an RBI single from CF Lucas Taylor that scored Gil Zayas.

Trouble struck in the bottom of the second as Quebec 1B Eddie Lantigua singled to start the inning. DH Pat Scalabrini followed with a single off Rodaway. Jose Contreras then grounded into a fielder's choice that forced Scalabrini out at second. After Rodaway walked Issael Gonzalaez, Patrick D'Aoust smacked a two-run single to right center field scoring Lantigua and Contreras. Quebec CF Josh Colafemina then bunted right off the mound and Rodaway rushed a throw home that was out of the reach of Joe Burke that plated Gonzalez. Mike Goss reached on a 4-2 fielder's choice. Jean Michel Rochon-Salvas followed with a 2-run single to make it a 5-3 ballgame.

Quebec would add five more runs (three off of Rodaway) in the bottom of the fifth. Surf RHP Derek Barrows came on with nobody out in the bottom of the fifth and threw three innings of four run, five hit ball with three walks and no strikeouts RHP Derek Duclos also threw a scoreless inning and struck out two in the loss.

Atlantic City would add two more runs in the top of the seventh off of Quebec's starter Simard but seemed unable to solve the RHP at times. Simard (7-1) went seven innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits while striking out seven to pick up the win. Rodaway took the loss.

C Patrick D'Aoust led Quebec with a 2-for-3 night and 4 RBIs. Clyde Williams added a 2-for-5 night and 3 RBIs for AC.

The Surf and Capitales play game three of their four game series tomorrow night in Quebec City. J.C. Huguet (6-1) starts for the Surf while Quebec counters with T.J. Stanton. First pitch is 7:05.
