(Nashua, N.H., July 18, 2008) Nashua Pride second baseman Ismael Castro played a role in all five Nashua runs, in a 5-2 victory over the Ottawa Rapidz in front of 2,557 fans at Historic Holman Stadium on Friday night.
Castro finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored to lead the Nashua offense. Center fielder Vinny Pennell notched a pair of hits and an RBI, finishing the game 2-for-3, while catcher Luis Rodriguez drove in a run going 1-for-3.
Pride starting pitcher Isaac Burkett (1-2) earned his first professional victory going six innings, giving up one run, on three hits, four walks and three strike outs. Pride reliever Rich Garces pitched a scoreless seventh inning of relief, while Adam Piechowski gave up one run, on three hits, and two strike outs in the eighth inning. Closer Andrew Weimer finished the game for the Pride giving up a single in the ninth.
World champion skier Bode Miller put the ball in play for the first time in five professional at-bats, grounding out to second base in his second and final at bat of the game. He went 0-for-2.
Ottawa starter Tanner Watson suffered the loss going six and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs, on nine hits, one walk and six strike outs. Rapidz reliever Angelo Burrows went the rest of the way dealing one and one-third scoreless innings.
Rapidz catcher Kyle Geiger finished the night 3-for-3 with three singles, while second baseman Jose De Los Santos ended the night 2-for-3. Left fielder Jereme Milons knocked in the lone Ottawa RBI going 1-for-3.
The Pride and Rapidz will play game three of the four game series on Saturday night, at 7:05pm, when Jarrett Stawarz (3-2) takes the mound for Nashua. The Rapidz will send left hander Mike Kusiewicz (2-5) to the mound.
