New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals used three solo home runs to support starter Aaron Tressler in a 5-2 win over the Worcester Tornadoes on Friday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with two solo home runs. With two outs, DH Luke Allen hit a line drive onto the hill in right field for his fourth homer of the season. The next batter, 3B Chris Kelly, unloaded on an Alex Pena fastball, sending it over the scoreboard to put New Jersey up 2-0 at the end of one inning of play. The Jackals extended that lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third when CF Zack Smithlin walked and later scored on an Allen RBI triple.
The Tornadoes got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. CF BJ Weed reached on a one-out triple off the right field wall and scored when 2B Omar Pena ripped an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game. However, the Jackals struck right back with a run in the bottom of the frame when an Andrew Larsen RBI single plated 1B Juan Tejeda to extend the Jackals lead to three at 4-1. In the bottom of the seventh, C Matt Lauderdale launched his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field which gave New Jersey a 5-1 advantage.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Tornadoes plated a run to make it 5-2, but in the ninth, closer Rusty Tucker struck out the side to earn his league-leading 13th save of the season as the Jackals defeated Worcester for the eighth time in nine meetings this season. Tressler (2-4) turned in one of his best outings of the season as he earned the victory. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings to earn his first win since opening day on May 22nd. Tornadoes starter Alex Pena (0-3) took the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits over six innings.
The Jackals and Tornadoes continue their four-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium when New Jersey sends right-hander Ted Serro to the hill against Worcester's Junior Guerrero. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, you can catch every inning via live webcast at www.jackals.com with the broadcast beginning five minutes prior to first pitch.
