Suns Win Seventh Straight, 5-1, Behind Heaney

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Andrew Heaney tossed six scoreless innings in his Double-A debut for the Jacksonville Suns (23-16, 57-49), who ran their winning streak to seven games with a sweep-clinching 5-1 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts (14-25, 49-60) at Bragan Field.

Heaney (1-0), ranked as the number three overall prospect in the Miami Marlins organization, did not disappoint in his first outing with Jacksonville, allowing no runs on just three hits while collecting three strikeouts and walking one.

"I was really impressed," Suns manager Andy Barkett said of Heaney. "He was poised and under control. I was really, super impressed with his performance tonight."

The Suns gave Heaney, who also finished his High-A season with five straight scoreless starts, his first lead in the bottom of the third thanks to a fielding error by Lookouts right fielder Jon Garcia. But it was Mark Canha's seventh-inning, bases-clearing triple and J.T. Realmuto's subsequent RBI double that provided the offensive highlights for Jacksonville.

"[Canha] looked great swinging the bat for us," Barkett said. "That was a big hit to give us some room."

The Suns have won seven game sin a row for the first time since May of 2010, and completed their first sweep of the season by winning all five games over the Lookouts at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Barkett noted how impressed he was with his team's play over the past seven days.

"It's humbling to win seven games in a row," Barkett said. "It would have been nice just to win the series. But we're getting great pitching and timely hitting."

The Suns now welcome in the Tennessee Smokies for the first time in 2013. The Smokies, battling for first place in the Southern League North division, will send right-hander Eduardo Figueroa (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against Jacksonville's Anthony DeSclafani (2-2, 5.20) in Friday's series opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
