Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

The Blue Wahoos made a one-run advantage stick through eight innings and Travis Mattair added late insurance with a solo home run as Pensacola registered their first series victory over Mobile with a 2-0 victory. Shelling the BayBears staff to the tune of thirteen hits, the Wahoos enjoyed a record night with help from Mattair; the slugger's blast provided his forty-sixth RBI, which ties the franchise record for the highest stash in a single season. Trevor Bell nailed down his tenth save in the final inning to shut the door on Mobile and limit the South Division rivals to four hits. Here are the highlights as we go Around the Horn:

CHLOE'S GOT TALENT: The Wahoos sent Chloe Channell off to New York City in style by honoring the America's Got Talent contestant before the game. Channell, who donned a commemorative jersey, threw out the ceremonial first pitch and signed autographs during the game for fans. The program airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM on NBC.

NEAR PERFECTION: Carlos Contreras carried a no-hitter through five innings before Ender Inciarte knocked an infield single after 5.1 fruitless frames. In all, Contreras faced only three batters above the minimum, walking two before exiting after the sixth inning. Baseball America's thirteenth-best prospect notched his first quality start in Double-A and his sixth of the season with the victory.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM: Brandon Short turned heads in center field, saving a would-be hit early in the game. He also impressed fans with his quick bat and smooth swing, collecting a two-hit game in his first Blue Wahoos start. Short, who signed with Pensacola yesterday, was a three-year Birmingham Baron who reached as high as Triple-A Charlotte before his release in mid-July.

ROAD TO SEPTEMBER: Pensacola stays within grasp of the white-hot Suns as both teams proved victorious tonight. Jacksonville, winners of seven straight, leads the South Division by two-and-a-half games over the second-place Mississippi Braves.

The Wahoos (19-20) will now hit the road for a five-game set with the Birmingham Barons, the Southern League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Jon Moscot, promoted from High-A Bakersfield before the game, will make his first Double-A start tomorrow night at Regions Field.Tune in to ESPN Radio (1450 AM and 101.1 FM) for streaming coverage or watch the live video feed available to online subscribers on MiLB.TV.
