
M-Braves Take Series Finale from Biscuits

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 3-2 in Thursday evening's series finale at Trustmark Park. The M-Braves travel to Huntsville for a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium before returning home Wednesday through Sunday to play seven games in five days against the Generals.
Mississippi (20-18, 58-50) scored three runs on seven hits while Montgomery (17-23, 54-56) plated two runs on four hits. Christian Bethancourt extended his on-base streak to 29 games with a first-inning single. Ian Thomas (6-6) worked seven solid innings for the M-Braves to pick up his sixth win of the season. He gave up two runs, one earned run, on just three hits while striking out six batters.
Montgomery took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Shawn O'Malley doubled and moved to third when Barrett Kleinknecht tried to double him off of second after a line out to first. The throw hit the runner and ricocheted into center field. Mike Mahtook then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing O'Malley to score the game's first run.
The M-Braves tied the game at 1-1 in the second. Edward Salcedo doubled and Jaime Pedroza walked. Omar Luna followed with a RBI-single to center field.
Curt Casali led off the top of the fifth with a ground-rule double to right field. He took third on Kyeong Kang's ground out to first. After a line out, Mayo Acosta delivered a two-out single to center, playing Casali and putting the Biscuits out front 2-1.
Mississippi responded to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the frame. Barrett Kleinknecht singled and Dan Brewer doubled. Mycal Jones dropped a sacrifice bunt down the first base line, allowing Kleinknecht to score and tie the game at 2-2. Bethancourt followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, driving home Brewer.
Enny Romero (9-6) suffered the loss. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk while fanning four. Pat Egan (S, 2) recorded the final four outs to notch his second save of the series.
The M-Braves travel to Huntsville for a five-game series against the Stars. In game one of the series Friday evening, M-Braves right-hander Aaron Northcraft (5-8, 3.76) counters Stars righty Drew Gagnon (4-5, 5.37). First pitch is scheduled for 6:43 PM.
