Biscuits Drop Back-And-Forth Battle

PEARL, Miss. - The Biscuits (54-56, 17-23) led 1-0 and 2-1 in the first five innings but the Mississippi Braves (58-50, 20-18) won the series-finale 3-2 on Thursday night at Trustmark Park. Mississippi took four-of-five games in the series.

With the Biscuits leading 2-1 in the fifth inning, the Braves led off with a single and a double to put runners on second and third. Mycal Jones bunted up along first to tie the game at two. Christian Bethancourt followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Braves a 3-2 lead.

The Biscuits had a chance to tie the game in the eighth inning. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Juan Jaime struck out back-to-back batters to keep it a 3-2 game. Pat Egan then entered to get an inning-ending groundout.

The Biscuits scored first with an RBI-groundball from Mikie Mahtook to score Shawn O'Malley in the first inning. After the Braves tied the game at one in the second inning, May Acosta ripped a go-ahead single in the fifth to make it 2-1 Montgomery.

Enny Romero (9-6) went seven innings and allowed two runs with six strikeouts in the loss.

The Biscuits will open a five-game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts Friday night in Montgomery. RHP Victor Mateo will get the nod for the Biscuits while the Lookouts will send RHP Andres Santiago to the mound. First pitch is slated for 7:05 from Riverwalk.
