Hagerstown Suns News Release
Josh Wyrick made his first game in Municipal Stadium a memorable one, picking up two hits and scoring the game-winning run to put the Suns over the Hickory Crawdads 4-3.
With the game tied at 3, Wyrick led off the bottom of the ninth inning against Felipe Garcia by hammering a double into the corner in left field. The Suns left-fielder then raced to third base when catcher Neil Walker tried to pick him off at second, but his throw skipped into shallow left field.
Matt Fisher's fly-out to centerfield was deep enough to bring Wyrick home and give the Suns their fourth win in five games against Hickory. Blake Eager gave the Suns three solid innings, striking out three batters and not allowing a run in his first start in two weeks.
After falling behind 1-0, the Crawdads took the lead with a three-run fourth inning including a two-run homerun by Antonio Sucre off of Jose Sanchez. It was the first relief appearance for Sanchez in 2005, and the right-hander looked shaky in his first inning of work before settling in.
Jason Weintraub got the win, throwing three fabulous inings, surrendering just two baserunners. The loss spoiled a good outing for Yoann Torrealba, who lasted seven innings and gave up three runs. The Suns tied the game with back-to-back RBI groundouts in the seventh inning.
Tomorrow, the Suns and Crawdads play the second game of a four-game set at 7:05. The game is part of Senior Days, presented by Bankers Insurance (Michael Barnes and Karen Wilt), seniors get admission to the ballpark for just $2.
