
Braves win hit parade, 6-5

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves and Greenville Bombers smashed a combined total of 25 hits, but it was the Braves who prevailed 6-5 Monday night in front of 2,609 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
The Bombers started the hit parade in the top of the third as Chuck Jerolman led off with a double and Christian Lara followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Jeff Corsaletti would then smash a base hit up the middle scoring Jeroloman to give the Bombers the lead 1-0. Lara, who moved to third on the Corsaletti single, would later score on a Jeff Natale fielder's choice making it 2-0. The Bombers would get their final run of the inning as Natale moved to second on a pass ball and scored on a John Otness single giving Greenville a 3-0 advantage.
Rome came through with some clutch two-out hitting in the bottom of the inning as Yunel Escobar delivered a two-out double and would cross the plate on another two-base hit by Brian Jordan putting Rome on the board 3-1. Mark Jurich would keep the inning going as he smashed a single scoring Jordan cutting Rome's deficit to 3-2.
Rome would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth when third baseman Dean White reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a Greenville error. JC Holt then delivered a single scoring White to tie the game a three a piece.
The Braves would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as a red hot Brian Jordan led of the inning with a single and advanced to third on a Jurich double. Clint Sammons would capitalize with runners on second and third as he belted a single into right field scoring Jordan giving the Braves a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.
Rome added runs in the fifth and sixth and the Bombers made it interesting with two runs in the eighth, but Will Startup came in and saved the game (3) for a 6-5 Braves victory.
Braves starter Luis Atilano pitched seven strong innings giving up four earned runs in route to his eighth win of the year (8-8). Jarrett Gardner was charged with the loss (2-11) giving up 12 hits and four runs in five innings of work.
The Braves now go on the road to open up a four game series with the Columbus Catfish and return home on August 20th to take on the Savannah Sand Gnats.
