
Captains stop Tourists

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, Ohio)---Original Captains Chris De La Cruz and Ricardo Rojas each had RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh inning to boost the Lake County Captains over the Asheville Tourists on Dog Day of Summer night at Classic Park 8-7.
The Dog Day promotion brought a total of 673 canines to the ballpark with all proceeds from the Dogs tickets to get into the game going to the Lake County Humane Society.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first the Captains (23-24, 63-54) added three more runs in the bottom of the second, and one in the fourth to capture a 5-0 lead. Juan Valdes, and Brian Finegan had RBI singles, and Chris Gimenez laced an RBI double to help the Captains cause during those innings.
The Tourists (23-26, 61-57) erased the Captains lead with a six-run fifth inning off starter Aaron Laffey. With no one out and two men on, Jeff Dragicevich delivered an RBI single to center scoring Trevor Allen from second to make it 5-1. Catcher Nelson Robledo followed with a two-run double to center scoring Dustin Hahn and Dragicevich to make it 5-3 still in favor of the Captains. After a Florentino Nunez groundout shortstop Chris Nelson laced a double to right plating Robledo from second making the score 5-4. SAL batter of the week Jose Valdez tied the score at five with an RBI triple to right to score Nelson. Joe Koshansky plated Valdez with a single to right giving Asheville a 6-5 lead. Koshansky added to his SAL leading RBI total, he has 99 on the season. He also leads the league in homeruns with 35.
With the score tied at 6-6 in the eighth and one out Wyatt Toregas started the two-run rally with a base-hit to right. After Tim Montgomery struck out Fernando Pacheco was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, Ricardo Rojas followed with his single scoring Toregas to give the Captains a 7-6 lead. Chris De La Cruz delivered his single plating Pacheco to put the Captains on top for good at 8-6. Both De La Cruz and Rojas were members of the first Captains team in 2003, and both have appeared in more than 200 games in a Captains uniform.
Adrian Schau (4-4) pitched two and two-thirds of scoreless relief to earn his fourth victory of the season. Darric Merrell (3-4) was saddled with the loss for Asheville.
