Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (11-14) snapped a six game losing streak with an extra inning win in the nightcap of a double-header versus the Hickory Crawdads (11-14). With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Suns right fielder Michael Burgess singled to centerfield to give the Suns the 6-5 victory.

Before all that, the Hagerstown Suns had to finish up Sunday's game with Hickory that was suspended due to inclement weather. Hickory dismantled the Suns as they finished it out 8-1.

Suns' starter Brad Meyers loaded the bases in the top of the third, before hitting Caleb Fields with a pitch to bring in a run.

The game picked back up on Monday night and it was all Crawdads. Terrence Engles was on the mound for the Suns when the game restarted.

Hickory got to Engles with two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh inning. Back-to-back singles put two runners on base for Erik Huber. The right fielder blasted the Engles offering over the right field wall to extend the ‘Dads lead to 6-1. Huber now has seven home runs on the year.

The Crawdads got two more runs in the eighth inning off Chris Lugo. The Suns' reliever gave up a solo home run to Danny Bomback, his first of the year. Second baseman Matt Cavagnaro followed that with a triple. Left fielder Caleb Fields brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Suns got their lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Catcher Travis Reagan led the frame off with a single. Reagan advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jake Rogers double to the wall in center field.

Meyers (5-4) was the tough luck loser. He gave up only one run in three innings of work before the game was suspended. Hickory reliever Michael Felix (4-3) picked up the win.

Both teams put up a run in the first inning of the regularly scheduled game. Hickory used a two out rally to get their run versus Suns starter Hassan Pena. Third baseman Matt Hague started the rally with a walk. Hagan followed that with a single, before Huber brought Hague around with a single.

The Suns run came from one swing of the bat by first baseman Tim Pahuta. The big lefty planted his eleventh home run of the year over the right field wall.

Hagerstown took their first lead of the entire series on a sacrifice fly by Pahuta that scored Mark Gildea.

Hickory tied the game up with an unearned run in the fourth inning. Catcher Ronald Pena doubled with one out. He stole third and came into score as the throw down from catcher Travis Reagan ended up in left field.

Hagerstown took the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth, but it would not last.

The Crawdads scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead. The first run came on a balk by Edulin Abreu with runners on first and third. Shortstop Jordy Mercer doubled to left field to bring in Austin McClune and give Hickory the lead.

Hickory reliever Charles Benoit could not hold the lead for the Crawdads as the Suns sent it to extras with a RBI single from Michael Burgess.

Hickory and Hagerstown exchanged runs in the eighth inning, before the Suns walked off with the win in the bottom of the ninth.

Ryan Harrison (2-1) picked up the win as he worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning. The loss goes to Charles Benoit (0-1).
