Catfish split doubleheader

Columbus Catfish News Release
Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (16-7) split the doubleheader against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (8-17) Monday night at Golden Park. Greensboro won the first game by the score of 3-1, and Columbus won the second game 2-1 over the Grasshoppers. The Catfish end their series with the Grasshoppers winning 3 out of 4. All 4 games were played in a 7 inning doubleheader format.
The Catfish did not show much signs of offense in the first game. They only had 5 hits, and their single run came in the last inning off a solo home run by Mike McCormick with 2 outs. Greensboro put up 2 runs in the 4th inning. The first run came off a double by Hunter Mense that scored Bryan Petersen, and the second run came off a ground ball by Ryan Curry that allowed Matt Dominquez to score from 3rd base.
Greensboro jumped out to an early lead in the first game putting up a run in the 1st inning with a single by Matt Dominquez that scored Bryan Petersen. The Grasshoppers would remain on top 1-0 until the 5th inning with a sacrifice fly by Omar Luna that scored Reid Fronk. Reid Fronk pitch ran for Shawn Williams who had hit a lead off double.
The Catfish would score the winning run in dramatic fashion in the 6th inning. With 2 outs Quinn Stewart singled to left field. With Stephen Vogt batted Quinn Stewart stole second to get into scoring position. Stephen Vogt singled and Quinn Stewart scored from second barley missing the tag from the catcher for the out. Austin Hinkle would allow 2 base runners in 7th inning, but would work himself out of it to seal the win for the Catfish.
Columbus will have tomorrow off before traveling on the road to play the West Virginia Power in a 4 game series. This will be the first time Columbus has played West Virginia since sweeping them in the South Atlantic League Championship last season. Also both Columbus and West Virginia are in first place in the 2 South Atlantic League Divisions; Northern and Southern. The Catfish will return home for an 8 game homestand on July 25th starting with a 4 game series against the Greenville Drive.
