Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Cory Riordan tossed a complete game and limited the Lake County Captains to six hits as the Asheville Tourists defeated the Captains 6-1 on Monday in front of the largest crowd of 2008. The Tourists took two of the three games in the series which could be a preview of the SAL championship round should both teams win their first round match up. The Captains scored a total of five runs in the four-game series.
The Tourists got to Captains reliever Josh Judy in the top of the seventh scoring as Brian Rike singled to put the Tourists ahead. That was followed by an RBI single by Lars Davis. Everth Cabrera singled home two more runs off of Gary Campfield who had relieved Judy. Kevin Clark hit a sacrifice fly and another run scored on a wild pitch and it was 6-0. The Captains picked up a run in the bottom of ninth to avert their second straight shutout.
Carmona went four scoreless innings and allowed one hit and struck out three. John Gaub pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Jonathan Holt and Kyle Lands each pitched one as well. Riordan got the win to even his mark at 7-7.
Fans came out in record numbers to see Fausto Carmona pitch as the total attendance was 9,318 - the biggest Monday night crowd in Captains history and the 153rd sellout since the Captains inaugural season in 2003.
