CHARLESTON- Charleston RiverDogs catcher Jesus Montero singled in the 9th inning leading the World team to a 3-0 victory over the USA squad at the 10th annual MLB All-Star Futures Game held yesterday afternoon at Yankee Stadium as part of the MLB All-Star festivities.

Montero, the No. 6 overall prospect in the Yankees farm system according to Baseball America, entered the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning at catcher and batted eighth in the World order.

After popping up in his first plate appearance in the seventh inning, the Guacara, Venezuela native ripped a solid ground-ball single to right field off former Augusta GreenJackets hurler Kevin Pucetas, who is currently pitching in High Class-A San Jose in the Giants organization.

Montero was the first RiverDog to receive an invitation to play in this exhibition since outfielder Jose Tabata garnered those laurels in 2006.

The South Atlantic League (SAL) was well-represented yesterday, as Augusta infielder Angel Villalona and Greenville outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin both participated, as well, for the World team. Lin was named the game's MVP going 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in the seventh inning to pace the World's nine-hit attack.
