
Jackets End Road Trip with Win over Shorebirds

Salisbury, MD - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 16-9) finished their eight game road trip with a 5-2 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (49-41, 13-12) Monday night. Thomas Neal drove in all five runs and had a pair of homers while starter Oliver Odle picked up the win.
Neal got the scoring started with a three run homer in the first inning to put Augusta up 3-0. James Simmons and Angel Villalona had back-to-back one out singles to set up Neal.
The GreenJackets increased the lead to 4-0 in the third inning on a two-out RBI single from Neal scoring Villalona from second. Villalona reached second on a two-out double.
Neal capped off the scoring with his second home run of the game to lead off the sixth inning for a 5-0 lead.
Odle (7-4) worked 5.1 shutout innings allowing five hits, one walk and struck out five.
Andrew De La Garza pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
The Shorebirds broke up the shutout in the seventh inning when Tyler Henson connected for a two-out, two run single off of Dan Turpen.
Both runs were credited to Ryan Paul who worked one inning and allowed two hits, a walk and struck out two.
The GreenJackets are off on Tuesday as they travel back to Augusta to begin an eight game home stand. The GreenJackets welcome to town the Hagerstown Suns Wednesday night in the first of a four game series against the Washington Nationals affiliate.
The GreenJackets send left-hander Madison Bumgarner (8-3, 1.94) to the mound in the first game of the series. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
The GreenJackets finished 3-5 on the eight game road trip.
Augusta sits a half game back of first place in the Southern Division.
Thomas Neal is the third player for August this season to have a multi-RBI game.
The GreenJackets had not had a home run in 11 straight games matching a season high mark.
