Kevin Keyes hit a three-run homer and an RBI triple as the Hagerstown Suns scored eight runs in the first three innings on their way to a 10-2 win over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night in Hagerstown.
The loss was the Legends' eighth straight.
The Suns scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Chris Curran led off with a walk and scored on a triple by Blake Kelso. A single by Adrian Sanchez produced a second run. David Freitas followed with another single, sending Sanchez to second, and Keyes launched a drive over the wall in center field to give the Suns a 5-0 lead.
The Suns picked up another run in the second inning on a homer by Justino Cuevas. Legends' left fielder Ruben Sosa went back to the wall and leaped in an effort to make the catch, but the ball popped out of his glove and over the fence.
Hagerstown added two more runs in the third inning on a double by Freitas, a triple by Keyes and a sacrifice fly by Jason Martinson.
The Legends scored twice in the seventh inning. With one out, Ruben Sosa reached on an error by Cuevas at second base. Delino DeShields, Jr. lined a double off the wall in left center field, scoring Sosa. DeShields advanced to third when Martinson, the shortstop, threw high to home in an effort to get Sosa at the plate. Ben Orloff's grounder to shortstop scored DeShields with the Legends' second run.
Martinson's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth closed out the scoring.
Chris McKenzie (4-4), who pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief and allowed two unearned runs, got the win.Suns starter Robbie Ray pitched only the first three innings and was not eligible for the victory.
Legends starter Mike Foltynewicz (5-10) worked two and two-thirds innings and took the loss. Alex Sogard pitched four and two-thirds of scoreless relief for Lexington.
The series concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game Wednesday. Washington Nationals' right-hander Stephen Strasburg, the top pick in the 2009 major league draft, is scheduled to start for Hagerstown as he continues to recover from last year's arm surgery. Luis Cruz will start for the Legends.
