Rodriguez Homer Sends Tourists Packing in 13 Innings Tuesday

SAVANNAH, GA - Aderlin Rodriguez ripped a game-winning home run over the left field wall with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the Gnats a 3-2 win over the Asheville Tourists Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (32-18/71-48) are now 23 games over .500 for the first time in the 2011 season.

The home run for the 19-year old Rodriguez was his team-leading 14th for the Gnats and his first since July 31st.

The Tourists (27-24/58-62) evened the game at 2-2 against reliever Hamilton Bennett in the top of the ninth. Bennett bounced back, kept the game tied, and then kept the Tourists off the board in the 10th and 11th innings.

Savannah reliever Brandon Sage, in his third outing since re-joining the Gnats from advanced-A St. Lucie, threw scoreless innings in the 12th and 13 th to earn his first SAL win of 2011. Starter Angel Cuan held the Tourists to one run on four hits in six innings. Cuan has thrown six innings or more for the 10th straight start.

The Gnats will send RHP Erik Goeddel (2-2, 2.82) to the mound in the finale of the four-game series and eight-game home stand against RHP Nick Schnaitmann (3-1, 1.96) for Asheville. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm and gates open at 6 pm. The pre-game show on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com begins at 6:50 pm.
