KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 16, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators struggled at the plate in a 5-1 loss to the West Virginia Power on Tuesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

The Power scored five unanswered runs, led by Daniel Grovatt's three RBI, and West Virginia's pitching kept the Intimidators off balance all night. Power starting pitcher Zack Dodson (5-3) worked six innings, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk to earn the win.

Intimidators starter Jon Bachanov kept West Virginia off the scoreboard for three innings, but allowed a two-run triple to Grovatt in the fourth before being chased from the game in the fifth inning. Bachanov (1-2) went 4 and 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a losing effort.

Trayce Thompson led off the second inning with a single and scored his league-leading 81st run of the season on a Leighton Pangilinan ground out to put the Intimidators on the board first.

West Virginia jumped in front on Grovatt's two-run triple in the top of the fourth. The Power plated three more runs in the fifth inning on RBI-singles from Andrew Maggi, Mel Rojas Jr., and Grovatt, making it 5-1.

Casey Sadler and Jason Townsend combined for two scoreless relief innings to shut the door on the Intimidators offense.

Kannapolis reliever Terance Marin pitched well enough to give the Intimidators a chance to rally, tossing four perfect innings with two strikeouts to finish the game on the mound.

The Intimidators wrap up this four-game series against West Virginia on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com .
