
BlueClaws Sweep Doubleheader From Shorebirds

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws came in having lost 5 straight games. On Tuesday, they wn 2 games over the Delmarva Shorebirds sweeping the doubleheader. 2-1 in game 1 and 5-3 in game 2. Both games were just 7 innings in length due to the doubleheader.
In Game 1, the BlueClaws got a very nice start from RHP Lisalberto Bonilla (3-4) who threw a 7 inning complete game to earn the 2-1 victory. Bonilla allowed just 4 hits and 1 run with 4 strikeouts in earning his 3rd win of the season. Offensively Carlos Alonso paced Lakewood reaching base all 4 times he batted with 2 singles and 2 walks. Jim Murphy was 2-2 also with an RBI, and Miguel Alvarez was 2-3 with 2 doubles out of the 9 hole.
The game was won on a bases loaded walk issued to BlueClaws catcher Cameron Rupp with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th. After a leadoff double in the 7th by Alvarez, he was still at 2nd with 2 outs. A walk to Alonso, then Murphy got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Cameron Rupp. He took a 3-2 fastball high from reliever Ryan Palsha to force in Alvarez from 3B, and the BlueClaws won it 2-1. Lakewood was 1-11 in the game with runners in scoring position.
Game 2 was a close game until the 4th when Lakewood blew it open. Jeff Lanning led off the 4th inning with his 4th HR of the year for Lakewood. The BlueClaws went on to score 4 runs in the inning on 5 hits and a sac fly.
Mike McGuire got his first win for Lakewood pitching 1 2/3rd scoreless innings in relief and striking out 2. Jay Johnson pitched the 9th to earn his 3rd save of 2011. Lakewood's starter Mario Hollands gave up 2 runs over 3 1/3rd innings in the spot start.
The BlueClaws are now back to within 4.5 games of First Place Kannapolis. Wednesday will feature a matchup of lefties in the finale of the 4 game series. LHP Ervis Manzanillo (7-6, 5.17 ERA) will start for Lakewood, and LHP Matt Bywater (0-2, 4.50 ERA) will start for Delmarva. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood.
