Hagerstown Suns News Release

Hagerstown, MD-The Hagerstown Suns (8-3) downed the Lakewood BlueClaws (4-6) in each game of their Sunday twin bill after Saturday's scheduled contest was washed out due to excessive rainfall, winning by a score of 5-1 and 8-3. In Game One, Suns LHP Bobby Hansen (1-1), the winning pitcher, tossed 6.0 innings and allowing one unearned run, scattering five hits, walking four, and striking out four.

Hagerstown's offense exploded with four runs courtesy of an RBI single by Blake Kelso in the infield, scoring Michael Taylor, who reached on a bunt single. Bryce Harper ripped an RBI base knock back up the middle to score Kelso, before Randolph Oduber lined a 2-run home run to center field, his first of the season, taking Harper home with him.

The Suns would tack on an extra run of insurance in the fourth frame as Kelso laced an RBI single to right field summoning home Cole Leonida, who lined his first hit of the season into center field.

The losing pitcher, first rounder, LHP Jessie Biddle (0-2), was shelled for five earned runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings. The Suns would win by a score of 5-1.

In Game Two, the Suns continued their offensive flood to drown the BlueClaws. Hagerstown hitters combined for six runs through the first three innings with a Mills Rogers sacrifice fly and a Harper stolen base-turned run scored as the result of a throwing error by SS Edgar Duran in the first inning. Then, Jason Martinson pushed a solo home run into the wind and over the right field wall for his first four-bagger of the season.

In the third stanza, David Freitas lofted a long, solo homer over the left field wall that hit the top of the brick stadium façade, almost leaving the ballpark completely. Michael Taylor got underneath an RBI sac fly and Oduber knocked in Brett Newsome, who reached on fielder's choice, by pulling an RBI single through the left side. Oduber had a career day, combining for a 4-for-4, 2 RBI game, and a 5-for-7, 2 HR, 4 RBI doubleheader.

RHP Taylor Jordan (3-0), the winning pitcher of record, accomplished a quality start going 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits, while walking one and fanning one. His counterpart, RHP Colby Shreve, the losing pitcher, was knocked around for 2.2 innings, while allowing six runs, three earned, and issuing free passes to three. The Suns were victorious by a score of 8-3.
