Lakewood Drops Game 1 of Sunday's Doubleheader 5-1 to Hagerstown

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The bats once again were silent for the BlueClaws, and SP Jesse Biddle (0-2) lost his second straight game as Hagerstown tied up the 4 game series 1-1 in Game 1 of the doubleheader Sunday. Lakewood collected just 5 hits in the 7 inning game, and their only run was the result of an RBI single by C Cameron Rupp in the 6th inning when the BlueClaws were trailing 5-0. The Suns needed just 8 hits to score their 5 runs thanks to some timely hitting.

Hagerstown SP Bobby Hansen won his first game this season going 6 strong innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 unearned run, 4 walks, and struck out 4 batters. Lakewod batters were off balance all day long, and hit into 2 double plays. Hansen lowered his ERA on the season to 1.64.

LHP Jesse Biddle went 5 innings and pitched well, but was done in a by a 4-run 3rd inning. He gave up 8 hits and struck out 6 batters, including top prospect Bryce Harper 2 times. Biddle showed good control as he didn't walk a batter, but the Suns took advantage of an error by 2B Jeremy Barnes, a Wild Pitch, and a stolen base to score their first run on an RBI single by Bryce Harper. Randolph Oduber followed up Harper's single with a deep Home Run to make it 4-1. RHP Hector Neris came in and struck out all three batters he faced in the 6th.

The BlueClaws drop below .500 to 4-5 on the year while Hagerstown advances to 7-3 and got their first win at home in 2011.
