Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (25-25, 60-58) lost an extra-inning game for the first time since May on Monday night, falling to the Hickory Crawdads (28-22, 72-46) in 11 innings by a final of 3-2. The loss snapped both Hagerstown's four-game home winning streak and four-game overall winning streak.

The winning run in the 11th crossed the plate thanks to a wild pitch from LHP David Napoli (5-4). With two outs in the inning 1B Jonathan Meyer drew a walk, followed by back-to-back singles by CF Jose Cardona and pinch hitter Jose Trevino. That loaded the bases for 2B Carlos Arroyo, but he didn't need to lift the bat from his shoulder as Meyer came home from third on Napoli's wild pitch to wind up giving Hickory the win.

Napoli had retired 10 batters in a row before issuing the walk to Meyer. Napoli's final line read 3.2 innings pitched, one earned run allowed on three hits and two walks while striking out three as he suffered the loss. RHP Scott Williams (4-0) earned the win for the Crawdads. He threw two innings, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out three.

The score had been deadlocked at 2-2 since the sixth. In the top of the inning Hickory loaded the bases with no one out. Third baseman Juremi Profar and SS Edwin Garcia hit back-to-back singles to begin the frame, and then DH Luke Tendler drew a walk. That's when RF Jairo Beras came to the plate, and he smacked a fly ball off the center field wall, driving in two and ending up with a double. That turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 Hickory lead.

In the bottom of the inning the Suns responded with a run of their own. Left fielder Matthew Page led off with a double. He wound up moving to third on a wild pitch, and scored from third when RF Wilman Rodriguez hit a one-out groundout to first to even the game. The Suns had taken their only lead in the game in the third thanks to a sacrifice fly to center field by catcher Raudy Read.

These teams will continue their three-game series at Municipal Stadium with game two on Tuesday August 18. The Suns will send RHP Luis Reyes (5-7) to the mound for his 22nd start and appearance this season. He will square off against RHP Ariel Jurado (11-0) for Hickory. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. For tickets call 301-791-6266 or go to www.hagerstownsuns.com.
