Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Those who have watched the Greenville Drive play in 2015 have seen some of the top prospects in professional baseball showcase their ability on a nightly basis. On Monday, that talented group will add another top prospect, as Andrew Benintendi, the 7th overall pick in the 2015 Draft, will join the Drive's active roster.

Benintendi joins the Drive from the Lowell Spinners, the short-season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, where he hit seven homers and drove in 15 runs to go with a .290 average and a .408 on-base percentage. He was just named the New York-Penn League Player of the Week for the week of August 10th-16th after hitting .407 with three homers in seven games.

Prior to signing with the Red Sox after being selected 7th overall this summer, Benintendi played two seasons at the University of Arkansas, where he was teammates with current Drive players Jalen Beeks and Michael Gunn.

During his sophomore season in 2015, Benintendi was selected as the winner of the Golden Spikes Award, given to the national player of the year, as well the SEC Player of the Year after hitting .376 with 20 homers, 57 RBI and 24 stolen bases while leading Arkansas to the College World Series.

Benintendi will be the second player selected by the Red Sox in the 2015 Draft to play for the Drive this season, joining pitcher Ben Taylor (7th round, University of South Alabama).

Following a weeklong road trip, the Drive will return to Fluor Field on Tuesday, August 25th to begin a four-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, affiliate of the Miami Marlins. To purchase tickets to next week's homestand, head to the Main Street Box Office, call (864) 240-4528 or log onto GreenvilleDrive.com.
